Sustainability

Building a better future

Our sustainability strategy takes a holistic approach across three core pillars.

We’ve set objectives and targets against each pillar to drive meaningful sustainable outcomes and systemic change across our business, residents, supply chain, investors, and in turn, wider society.

  • Planet – we’ll become a regenerative business
  • Circularity – we’ll design out waste from our communities
  • Social – supporting the social and economic vitality of our local communities

Sustainability in Chester

The Chester community will be whole life net zero carbon across the entire development and for its operational lifespan, breathing new life into an unoccupied, brownfield site.

Through high performance construction materials, efficient heating and hot water generation via air source heat pump technology, renewable energy generation on site as well as offsetting carbon emissions, the buildings will achieve net zero carbon emissions when in use.

Other measures include:

  • Low Carbon Homes: An all-electric development, where nearly 70% of the energy used will be from low or zero carbon sources, we’re aiming for savings in carbon emissions above and beyond building regulations.
  • Resilient Environment: Biodiversity will be enhanced with green and open spaces, including extensive gardens and a community square. These spaces and internal streets within the site are designed considerately providing a safe and accessible environment.
  • Mobility and Connectivity: The arrangement of buildings encourages residents to interact whilst walking and cycling routes connect the development to the local community. A sustainable transport hub will provide cycle hire and electric vehicle charging points.
  • Engage and Relate: physical activity, healthy lifestyles and a sense of community will be encouraged. This will support and foster social interaction between residents, families and neighbours.
